Article/Chapter Title: The HIV-infected patient
Abstract: (from the chapter) The relevance of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) to clinical practice needs no introduction: this two-decade-old epidemic has affected nearly every country in the world, and the World Health Organization has corrected the "underreported" figure of 1.1 million to a more likely 4.5 million lives affected by the virus. No statistics, however, truly convey the suffering contained within these numbers. This chapter explores psychiatric care for HIV-infected patients.
