Article Title: Dissolving a nutrition clog with a new pancreatic enzyme formulation
Abstract: An effective way of compounding a UPE mixture for feeding tube use is by crushing one UPE tablet and one 375-mg sodium bicarbonate tablet mixed in 5 mL of water for dis-solving the nutrition formula clog. The mixture should be introduced to the clog and clamp the feeding tube for at least 30 minutes. If the clog is not cleared within 30 minutes, the UPE mixture should be removed from the tube and replaced with fresh UPE mixture. If the clog is not made of nutrition formula, the UPE mixture may not dissolve the clog. The residual gummy residue seen in Figure 2 may contribute to increasing the size of the obstruction. © 2013 American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.
