Abstract: |
Reviews the book, Learn to Live through Cancer: What You Need to Know and Do by Stewart B. Fleishman (2011). This book fills an important gap in patient education, covering often overlooked aspects of life as a cancer patient that are critical for maximizing quality of life and treatment response. The book is centered on My Recovery Plan and the LEARN (Living, Education, Activity, Rest, Nutrition) system, which Dr. Fleishman created as a way to organize his multifaceted approach. Throughout the book, Dr. Fleishman remains focused on practical advice that can be easily implemented and shows proven benefit. Overall, Dr. Fleishman has written an excellent book for patients beginning the journey of cancer treatment and survival. The medical system is often confusing, intimidating, and only partially attentive to the human needs of patients. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2013 APA, all rights reserved). |
