Article Title: New tracers PET in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma
Abstract: PET is commonly used in the evaluation and posttreatment management of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. Although [ 18F]fluorodeoxyglucose is the most commonly used radiopharmaceutical, many other radiopharmaceuticals are under investigation to assess particular biologic characteristics such as hypoxia and tumor repopulation. In this review, the authors discuss new PET tracers that allow the biologic profiling of head and neck squamous cell carcinomas, including [ 18F]fluoromisonidazole, [ 18F] fluorothymidine, [ 18F]fluoromethyltyrosine, and epidermal growth factor receptor biomarkers. © 2012 Elsevier Inc.
