Abstract: As is well known, wavelet filterbanks in general do not allow for shift invariance due to the downsampling operation. In this paper we discuss the design of a tight frame symmetric filterbank {h 0, h 1, h 2, h 3}, with the requirement that h 2 and h 1 be identical within a shift by one sample, or we seek h 2(n) = h 1(n -1). This results in the wavelets Ψ 1 and Ψ 2 related as Ψ 2(t) = Ψ 1(t - 1/2).
