Abstract: |
(create) With the state of the family structure and the welfare of children always at the flash point of political and social discourse, studies of the media are ever more challenged to probe and understand the familial use of mass media products and the impact this behavior has on the structure, function, and mind-set of the family. In an age of communication technology explosion, where cable and satellite channels increase the range and amount of content, where high-definition television increases the quality of the televised image, where digital video recorders (DVRs) ensure the unremitting availability of television programs, and where the Internet and the World Wide Web massively increase the available sources of information, the impact of the electronic media on the family needs to be studied as much now as ever.
