Abstract: Oncologists commonly encounter patients with depressive symptoms. It is important for the clinician to recognize and treat these symptoms in cancer patients, since they can occur for both physical and psychological reasons. This chapter describes assessment of depression, differentiating between types and causes of depressive disorders, and treatment interventions. Risk factors for suicide, assessment and management of suicide are also reviewed.
