Abstract: |
Pain is a ubiquitous part of the cancer experience. Whether disease-related, iatrogenic, or both, pain complicates all stages of disease and often persists despite curative treatment. Effective management of malignant pain requires an accurate diagnosis, rapid implementation of a multimodal treatment strategy, and frequent follow-up for rapid escalation if required. As treatment can include opioid and non-opioid pharmacotherapy, surgical and percutaneous interventions, psychotherapeutic techniques, manual therapies, and complementary/alternative medicine approaches, among others, multidisciplinary collaboration is often necessary. This chapter aims to introduce some of the most common strategies for managing oncologic pain and to discuss the data supporting their use. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved. |
