Article/Chapter Title: Approach to dermatologic urgencies in oncology
Abstract: Dermatologic complications are a common side effect seen in treatment with systemic therapies in cancer patients and are increasing with the development of new antineoplastic agents. Nurses need to be familiar with common descriptive terms used to describe the skin lesions in order to anticipate the diagnosis and treatment. Included in this chapter is information on general assessment of dermatologic complications, and examination of common symptoms such as radiation dermatitis, hand and foot syndrome, Stevens–Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis, drug rash with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS), and Sweet syndrome. © 2026 Springer Publishing Company.
