Article Title: Oncologic interventional radiology procedures at a freestanding ambulatory surgery center: Organization, anesthetic considerations, and outcomes
Abstract: The integration of interventional radiology (IR) into a freestanding ambulatory surgery center is an innovative practice model. We describe our experience with an ambulatory IR practice providing comprehensive cancer care since 2017 mostly to patients with a high comorbidity burden within a large urban and suburban health care system. We discuss the specific features, anesthetic considerations, and select outcomes and descriptive data showing consistent high-volume and low-anesthesia-related complications. This model may inform future expansions of outpatient IR services for high-risk populations, with implications for increased patient satisfaction and expanding access and efficiency in cancer care. © 2025 International Anesthesia Research Society.
