Abstract: |
The differential diagnosis for hip pain is extensive, as it can originate from various anatomic structures. Ultrasound-guided hip interventions have become an important tool for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Intra-articular hip injections have been useful not only for confirming hip pathology but also for providing significant symptom relief in patients with hip osteoarthritis. Greater trochanteric bursa (GTB) injection can treat greater trochanteric pain syndrome, which encompasses several disorders of the lateral hip. More recently, denervation of hip articular nerve branches via radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is increasingly being considered for patients with chronic refractory hip pain. This chapter will explore the history, relevant anatomy, indications, injection technique, and efficacy of three interventions in the hip region, including the intra-articular hip injection, GTB injection, and hip articular branch nerve targets. © 2025 selection and editorial matter, Alan Kaye, Mark Jones, Neal Rakesh, and Amitabh Gulati. |
