Article/Chapter Title: Aging and hematologic disorders
Abstract: Many hematologic disorders are more common in the older adult population. Age-related vulnerabilities, such as functional and cognitive impairment, can affect treatment tolerability. Geriatric assessment can personalize management of older adults with hematologic disorders. In this chapter, we discuss the use of geriatric assessment in common hematologic disorders, including lymphoma, myelodysplastic syndrome, acute myeloid leukemia, and multiple myeloma. In addition, we discuss the role of geriatric assessment in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy. Efforts are needed to increase dissemination and implementation of geriatric assessment in clinical practice. © 2023 by Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
