Article/Chapter Title: Ablation of prostate: Bipolar resection
Abstract: Bipolar resection of the prostate for the surgical management of lower urinary tract symptoms caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia is an evolution of transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) and transurethral electrovaporization of the prostate. Over the last decade, this endoscopic technique has proven to be as efficacious as TURP, and potentially safer due to the fact that it is performed in 0.9% normal saline with almost no risk of dilutional hyponatremia, a feared complication of TURP. Long-term efficacy and safety data continue to accrue and appear to be favorable as compared to TURP. © 2019 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.
