Article/Chapter Title: Recent therapeutic approaches for neurodegenerative disorders
Abstract: The gradual deterioration of neurons causes neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and Huntington’s disease. These incurable diseases affect millions of people globally. The consequences are prolonged periods of poor quality of life for patients. In light of the increasing lifespan of humans, neurodegenerative diseases are a legitimate cause for concern. Despite our increasing understanding of the causes of diseases over recent decades, complex neural loss mechanisms and physiological factors that are incompatible still pose challenges to studying the pathogenic processes and finding effective treatments. The advancement of research has led to the development of countless potential therapeutic agents for neurodegenerative diseases. Researchers continuously screen and test disease-specific drugs in clinical trials to cure the disease. Several advanced therapies, such as immune modulation, gene replacement, and regenerating medicine, are on the verge of promising development shortly. Considering current research on neurodegenerative disorders, this chapter provides a comprehensive overview of drug therapy, immunotherapy, gene therapy, and stem cell therapy advancements. © 2025 selection and editorial matter, Sangeeta Singh, Sachchida Nand Rai, and Santosh Kumar Singh.
