Title: GATE Monte Carlo simulation toolkit for medical physics
Conference Title: Joint International Conference on Supercomputing in Nuclear Applications + Monte Carlo (SNA + MC 2024)
Abstract: The GATE toolkit (GEANT4 Application for Tomographic Emission) is a GEANT4-based (GEometry ANd Tracking) platform for Monte Carlo simulations in medical physics. GATE applications can be divided into two main axes: radiation-based medical imaging and radiotherapy/dosimetry. The accurate modeling of the first one is crucial for system design and optimization as well as for development and refinement of image analysis algorithms. The importance of the precise simulation of the second is essential for characterisation of external beam radiotherapy (proton therapy and carbon ion therapy) and absorbed dose assessment. Within this paper, we discuss the main features of GATE and give a general view on applications, followed by insights into future development perspectives. © The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.
