Article/Chapter Title: Use cases in cytology
Abstract: Digital pathology and artificial intelligence (AI) will revolutionize the practice of pathology. This chapter explores those aspects of the development and deployment of digital pathology and AI solutions that are unique to the practice of cytopathology. Advances in whole-slide imaging technology and the need for rapid onsite evaluation (ROSE) driving telecytology advances have brought the implementation of digital solutions to cytopathology problems closer than ever before. This chapter will discuss the potential role of these powerful digital tools and AI solutions in primary diagnosis and rapid onsite evaluation, among others. The goal is that this may serve as a guide to those wishing to implement these powerful tools into their practice. © 2025 Elsevier Inc.
