Article/Chapter Title: Quality management in digital pathology: Analytic and postanalytic phases
Abstract: Digital pathology (DP) is destined to change the practice of pathology and is now being adopted in clinical, education, and research use cases. Each laboratory and organization will require foundational components, including hardware, software, and network components to support the DP system. The exact infrastructure blueprint will depend on the laboratory use cases, resources, and deployment strategy. The growth of DP adoption highlighted the need for ensuring quality whole slide imaging workflows to ensure the quality of the resulting digital images for all downstream use case. As with other disruptive healthcare technologies, the need for consistent, reliable quality images is essential for pathologists’ accuracy and accurate diagnoses as well as for building trust and adoption of DP workflows. The chapter explores identified issues in DP quality in the analytical and postanalytical phases and QC processes that were developed in order to mitigate the arising quality issues. © 2025 Elsevier Inc.
