Abstract: |
Minimally invasive surgery (MIS) has been established as an essential tool and mainly usually related to less surgical morbidity. Robotics-assisted laparoscopy is undoubtedly a definitive technological evolution of MIS and gynecology has been ranked the highest among specialties in robotic procedure volume in the United States. The advantages and disadvantages of each MIS approach must be weighed with regard to the surgeon's expertise and each institution's characteristics. Robotic surgery can help surgeons with low expertise in complex laparoscopic procedures in providing MIS to their patients. Moreover, robotics can add to the inherent advantages and facilities of surgical techniques of experienced surgeons. In this chapter, we report the current evidence of robotics in gynecology and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of robotics-assisted surgery compared to conventional laparoscopy and laparotomy (“open”). © 2025 Elsevier Inc.
