Article/Chapter Title: Genitourinary
Abstract: Genitourinary specimens cover an array of tissue types and anatomic structures. Mucosa and non-keratinizing epithelium may be familiar to most Mohs technicians from eyelid or lip Lip specimens, but processing urethra Urethra has no proper analogue in the Mohs lab; it is highly variable, contingent on the method of excision, and the specific conditions of the lesion. Penile skin cancers are not usually the result of sun exposure but are primarily (though not exclusively) HPV-driven SCCs. These tumors usually arise from the glans Glans or coronal sulcus. SCCs account for about 90% of carcinomas of the vulva, most of those on the labia majora, though its relationship with HPV is mixed. SCC of the perianal skin is rare and most often treated with resection throughout the hair-bearing area until the mucocutaneous border of the anal canal, at which point chemoradiation is the favored treatment. © The Author(s), Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.
