Article/Chapter Title: Multifactorial considerations of human health and public health in oncology
Abstract: The role of taking a public health lens to the study of cancer across the disease spectrum from prevention to survivorship cannot be understated. Subsequently, it may be tempting to assume a view that associates one or two key risk factors with a cancer diagnosis, such as smoking and lung cancer, or to posit only a blanket intervention such as to decrease the financial toxicity of cancer or expand Medicaid to provide health insurance to low-income individuals. However, in reality, a multitude of considerations are necessary when studying and intervening in public health and cancer; these considerations range from biomedical and genetic factors to social and behavioral forces to systemic and environmental contexts. © 2023 Elsevier Inc.
