Article/Chapter Title: Partial gastrectomy
Abstract: In the modern era of proton pump inhibitors, far fewer gastrectomies are performed than in the past. This chapter focuses on partial gastrectomy without lymphadenectomy, as indicated for: gastrointestinal stromal tumors; en bloc resection of direct invasion into the stomach from a separate primary; and premalignant lesions not amenable to endoscopic removal. In these situations, the surgeon may perform either a wedge resection or a distal gastrectomy with reconstruction. Depending on the clinical scenario, this may be performed using minimally invasive methods. The technique and considerations for both these approaches are covered in this chapter. Indications, preoperative preparation, pitfalls and danger points, postoperative care, and complications are also covered. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2014, 2022.
