Article/Chapter Title: Vascular anomalies
Abstract: Congenital vascular anomalies is an all-inclusive term for vascular malformations, vascular tumors, and other congenital vascular defects. There are two basic types: hemangiomas have plump endothelia, increased mast cells, and multi-laminated basement membranes and are superficial, deep, or combined and may be proliferating or involuting while vascular malformations have flat endothelia, normal mast cell numbers, and a thin basement membrane and may be capillary, venous, arterial, lymphatic, or a combination of these. It has been estimated that up to 60% of all vascular anomalies are misdiagnosed. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022. All rights reserved.
