Article/Chapter Title: Strategies for optimal pain control in the penile implant patient
Abstract: Although not commonly discussed, the occurrence of intense postoperative pain after penile implant (PI) surgery has been reported in 2-5% of patients and has been linked to patient dissatisfaction. Considering the increasing numbers of PI surgeries worldwide, the aim of this chapter was to review available strategies to optimize pain control after PI surgery. Several options are reported and include strategies in all different time points of the surgical procedure: pre-, intra-, and postoperatively. Overall, a multimodal strategy appears to be the most effective approach in reducing post-op pain and the amount of opioids needed. However, prospective studies with longer follow-up and assessment of its influence on patient satisfaction are still required. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2022.
