Article/Chapter Title: Surgical techniques
Abstract: Surgery is an integral part of the diagnosis and management of neuroblastoma. Although molecular and histologic factors greatly influence patient outcomes, appropriate surgical technique in these patients must take into account age and the complexities inherent in the specific anatomic locations where the tumors arise. In this chapter, we briefly review patient risk stratification schemes set forth by the International Neuroblastoma Risk Group and the International Neuroblastoma Staging System, followed by a description of appropriate surgical techniques for tumor debulking and resection in cervical, thoracic, abdominal, and pelvic locations. Preoperative and anesthesia considerations are also summarized. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2020.
