Review Title: | Five decades of progress in surgical oncology: Tumors of the lung and esophagus |
Abstract: | During the past 50 years, there has been a remarkable transformation in the management of lung and esophageal cancers. Improved methods of diagnosis, better staging and patient selection for surgery, the advent of minimally invasive approaches to resection, decreasing operative mortality, greater insights into tumor biology, and the development of effective multimodality therapies and precision medicine have contributed to this transformation. Progress has been most notable in lung cancer. © 2022 Wiley Periodicals LLC. |
