Article Title: A therapeutic play group for hospitalized children with cancer
Abstract: The therapeutic play group program developed at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center’s 42-bed pediatric unit is used to enhance pediatric patients’ compliance with the medical treatment and to help them cope with their diagnosis, treatment, and hospitalization. The program is unique because it focuses on prevention, the co-leadership of the group by a social worker and a nurse, and the integration of what is learned in the group into the care plans for the patients. Common clinical issues encountered in the groups are discussed and case examples are presented. © 1985 by The Haworth Press, Inc. All rights reserved.
