Article Title: | Soft-tissue sarcomas |
Abstract: | Recent advances in both radiation therapy and chemotherapeutic agents prompted a critical review of patients who were treated on the head and neck Service at Memorial Solan-Kettering Cancer Center for soft-tissue sarcoma of the head and neck. An attempt was made to identify the factors that affected the choice of treatment and the prognosis. It seems clear that aggressive local treatment initially appears to offer the best control of locoregional disease. Radiation therapy and chemotherapy should be considered as adjuvant treatment in patients who have recurrent tumors or those who present with large lesions or whose tumors are high grade and histologically aggressive and not amenable to satisfactory surgical excision. |
