Article Title: Proctectomy and coloanal reconstruction for rectal cancer
Abstract: There is increasing interest in the use of coloanal reconstruction following proctectomy for low rectal cancer. The authors review the surgical options for such sphincter-saving approaches, and report their pilot experience with eight patients receiving high-dose preoperative radiation with subsequent proctectomy and endoanal anastomosis. There were no anastomotic leaks. © 1990 American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
