Abstract: |
Cancer of the head and neck, including cancer of the oral cavity, pharynx, larynx, and thyroid, constitutes only a small component of human neoplastic disease in the United States; in 1990 it was estimated to account for 6% of neoplastic disease in men and 4% in women. The literature published on the subject in 1989 is broad and varied, with emphasis on cancers of the larynx, cervical metastases, reconstruction, and rehabilitation. The increasing literature on combined therapy, particularly on combinations of chemotherapy with surgery or radiotherapy, is covered elsewhere in this issue. |
