Article Title: Chemotherapy for cisplatin-resistant germ cell tumors
Abstract: Effective first- and second-line salvage chemotherapies using ifosfamide-based regimens or high dose chemotherapy followed by autologous bone marrow transplantation (AUBMT) are available for patients with germ cell tumors (GCT) in whom a durable complete response to initial cisplatin-based therapy is not achieved. Models have been developed that identify 'poor risk' patients who are unlikely to have prolonged survival after cisplatin-based induction chemotherapy. Intensive initial chemotherapy regimens are currently being investigated in this group of patients in an attempt to increase response and survival rates.
