Article Title: Staging and substaging of metastatic germ cell tumors using prognostic factors
Abstract: During the past decade, criteria to distinguish between good- and poor-risk patients with previously untreated germ cell tumors have been developed. In general, these are based on the extent of disease and the level of serum tumor markers. The variability in criteria defining the poor-risk category requires that new markers based upon the initial response to treatment and genetic abnormalities in the tumor be studied as possibly new independent markers of prognosis.
