Article/Chapter Title: | Survival following psychotherapy interventions |
Abstract: | (from the chapter) How does psychological wellness impact upon the course and outcome of cancer? Does living better mean living longer? Such questions were posed after the publication in 1989 of a survival advantage from participation in group therapy for women with metastatic breast cancer. A flurry of studies blossomed as a result to examine the effect of psychotherapy interventions on length of survival with cancer. The outcome of such trials is reviewed in this chapter, together with consideration of some moderators of change. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2011 APA, all rights reserved). |
