Abstract: A single accepted approach for esophageal excision and reconstruction has not yet been devised. The authors describe the options in surgical approaches available for esophageal resection when dealing with carcinoma and discuss the extent of esophageal resection and lymph node dissection, the conduit, and routes of reconstruction.
