Article Title: | Evaluation of the breast undergoing lumpectomy and radiation therapy |
Abstract: | Understanding the indications for and the routine changes after breast conservation enables the radiologist to maximize the quality of care for women undergoing breast-sparing treatment for carcinoma. This knowledge is necessary for the radiologist to help select appropriate patients for this type of treatment and to recognize recurrent tumor in the treated breast. It also helps minimize recommendations for unnecessary biopsies of the radiated breast. Selection criteria for breast conservation, mammographic alterations after surgery and radiation, and patterns of recurrence are discussed. |
